Periodically, we sort through our 5000+ Twitter followers for great travel locales. Last up, we looked at hotels in Grenada, Nicaragua and Side, Turkey. Today, we move further east than Turkey and take a look at resorts in Udaipur, India and Siem Reap, Cambodia.

As always, we note that the only connection we have with the locales featured is that we are mutual Twitter followers. We have not visited these sites and this should not stand as any kind of review. We are not in any way affiliated with these folks and we have nothing to gain financially from you visiting their websites, twitter accounts or physical, real world properties.

This is simply a way of sharing with you, the reader, some of these great places around our really, really big world that we previously had no idea existed.

Shree Vilas

Sure, it’s on a man-made lake. However, that man-made lake was created in 1362. Shree Vilas is a resort hotel located on Lake Pichola in Udaipur, Rajasthan, India. The lake is four kilometres by three kilometres and has a maximum depth of 8.5 metres of 28 feet. During drought, the lake can completely dry up.

Shree Vilas consists of 20 ultra luxurious tents. All have a view of the lake and its historic palaces. All have the comforts of a regular luxury hotel room, including air conditioning. On the property is a zero edge pool overlooking Lake Pichola.

Pricing is quite reasonable and rooms can easily be booked online. A super deluxe double room is pretty much always 5,999 Indian Rupees per night. A super deluxe family room is a little higher at 6,999 INR. This might seem like a lot but one U.S. Dollar will get you 66 Rupees while one Canadian Dollar will get you 51 Rupees.

So, why go there? Well, Udaipur is caked in history and grandeur. It is the historic capital of the Kingdom of Mewar and was founded in 1553. Now, there is a population of 450,000 and the area is world reknown for its Rajput Era palaces. At the top of the list is the City Palace on the shores of Lake Pichola. This spawling building was completed in the 16th century.

Udaipar is located in the northwest of India and has a tropical climate. The average December high temperature is 20.5C or 69F. By May, the warmest month of the year, that average high increases to an unbearable 39.8C or 104F. The city is located 616km north of Mumbai and 655km southwest of New Delhi.

Victoria Angkor Hotel

A extremely popular bucket list item, the Angkor Temples, including Angkor Wat, is a must see for any traveler. Victoria Angkor Resort and Spa is just six kilometres from the temples. What you get is great luxury for a not quite outrageous price.

Located in Siem Reap in the Kingdom of Cambodia, the resort hotel has 130 rooms of varying levels. There are 56 superior rooms with a garden view and 409 square feet of living space. The 64 deluxe rooms have the same dimensions but have a poolside view. The ten colonial suites are nearly double the size at 786 square feet.

Rooms can be booked online. We used a few different dates as samples but the prices didn’t seem to vary depending on day of the week or season. The prices run from 124 USD for the superior rooms up to 307 USD for the colonial suites.

Located seven kilometres from the Siem Reap International Airport and just six kilometres from the temples, the Victoria Angkor Hotel puts you right in the heart of the action. Siem Reap is a city in northwestern Cambodia with a population of around 175,000. The city dates back to the year 802.

The Angkor temples were designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1992. Angkor Wat dates back to the 12th century. Originally constructed as a Hindu temple, it was gradually transformed to a Buddhist temple.
