One of the greatest things about starting our Twitter account, @AboutTravelling, at the start of 2013 is I’ve been introduced to some great resorts throughout the world. Without Twitter, I may have never known so many of these travel destinations.
I’d like to show my appreciation to all 1,400 followers to date. However, that might take a while. Today, I’d just like to start with four great resorts in the Caribbean and Mexico region. We’ll take a look at four resorts in sunshine destionations from Mexico to the United States Virgin Islands.
Please note, this is not an advertisement and we have no affiliation with the following four resorts. Images shown have been borrowed directly from each resort’s official website. The four are wide ranging but are listed in no specific order. Any pricing is as of July 29, 2013, is subject to changes and should be used as reference only.
Spyglass Mexico
Spyglass is a nine bedroom luxury villa located 35 minutes south of Zihuatanejo/Ixtapa, Mexico, along the coast of the Pacific Ocean. At first glance, I was a bit overwhelmed by the $1,500 USD fee. However, that’s for the whole 10,000 square foot villa along with a fulltime houseman, cook, housekeeper, gardener and night watchmen. As well, on rentals of a week, they will throw in a free night. Divide that among nine couples and the price is really quite reasonable.
The villa has eleven bathrooms and two kitchens to go along with the nine bedrooms. There is 5,000 square feet of terraced patios along with a 800 square foot second floor balcony. Oceanview but not quite waterfront, Spyglass has a great salt water pool.
Spyglass is located in the oceanfront village of Labarrita. The town boasts a friendly charm without the typical pushy tourism found in resorts to the north.

Gran Ventana Resort – Dominican Republic
Gran Ventana is included in the Playa Dorada Tourist Complex, located between the city of Puerto Plata and the Puerto Plata Airport. This is a 506 room all-inclusive resort with everything including golf available in the greater complex.
From a pricing example of a week stay at Gran Ventana, leaving out of Toronto on November 24, 2013, this resort is a whole lot of value. Via Signature Vacations, a week at Gran Ventana booked through Expedia.ca would cost $1,015 CAD per person, including taxes.
