Early Morning Panorama: Would This Look Good On My Wall? [Using BestCanvas]

I want a panorama to put on my wall. I want it to either be a shoreline or a cityscape. I recently captured the one below on an early morning springtime hike at Forks of the Credit Provincial Park.

This is a composite of seven images taken in portrait. The one thing that bugs me is the shoreline isn’t straight. But, if you correct for the shoreline, the trees are crooked.

We’ve recently added bestcanvas.ca as an affiliate partner. Although they don’t offer a panorama size in canvas prints, they do in metal and acrylic. The price is quite reasonable with a 36×12 coming in at less than $100 CAD before taxes and shipping. I am considering this image but may hold off and see what June and maybe July bring. More on the scene, the process and the potential print company below…

What This Panorama Is Made Of

These are the seven images that were stitched together to create the panorama. These have been reduced in size / resolution from their originals for better web page speed and to fit the gallery configuration.

High resolution versions of these images and other photos from the same day are available at Dreamstime. Want to earn cash from your own photos? Why not sign up for free with Dreamstime and start submitting now: Become a paid photographer!

Yet untested by us, BestCanvas.ca SEEMS to be a great online print service (we will be testing in the near future). Although the name suggests they deal in canvas prints, this company also offers prints backed on metal, acrylic and forex. They also offer a full slate of gift and household ideas.

About The Panorama

The finished product was created from seven portrait style shots. The location is a small kettle lake at Forks of the Credit Provincial Park. The park is located northwest of the Greater Toronto Area, between Brampton and Orangeville.

I’m not sure of the proper process, but… I processed the RAW images first, with equal attributes. I’m a lowly Photoshop Elements user so I had to actually go back to an old version in order to create the panorama. For some unknown reason, the panorama function on the newer versions of Elements doesn’t seem to work.

Once stitched together, I moved the panorama to the newest version of the software for touchups. Originally not really planning to print, I didn’t pay a whole lot of attention to the dimensions. This photo is at a 3.5:1 ratio. I guess I should have been going for an even 3:1 ratio for printing (36×12 print size).

Pano’s are something I, and probably most photographers, would like to do more of. But, it’s an effort and can be a bit more time consuming that just taking a single shot (duh!). Although, you do end up with a single panorama and a handful of individual images that might be of use to you on their own.

The Location (Forks Of The Credit Hiking Tour Video)

As mentioned, Forks of the Credit Provincial Park is located northwest of the Greater Toronto Area. The Bruce Trail and Trans Canada Trail run through the park and there are a handful of side trails within the property.

This is a non-operating park. However, this is one of those non-operating Ontario provincial parks where you still have to pay a fee to park. That is, if you don’t know the secret local entrance. Be very careful, though. There are several spots that look like secret local entrances but many are posted no-parking and are, indeed, regularly patrolled.

If you just want to go and experience the kettle lake, it’s best to suck it up and pay the fee at the main parking area. The lake is just a short walk from the parking lot.

The video below was taken a few days before the photos above. It covers many of the trails within the park and gives a pretty good idea of what you’ll see if you visit. There are no other people to be seen in this video because the footage was taken at sunrise. However, this park can get quite crowded on weekends.

If you like what you see, please give it a ‘Thumb’s Up’. We would be forever grateful if you’d consider subscribing to our YouTube Channel!
