Seabourn World Cruise: Comparing The 2018 Great Oceans Exploration to the 2013 World Cruise

Back in 2012 and 2013, I was half-assed into my failed attempt at selling cruise vacations. It didn’t work out but I learned a lot. Recently, I was looking back at this article I wrote about the 2013 Seabourn World Cruise (see below for the 2013 article). It was an amazing itinerary that truly did cover the world on a cruise that lasted 116 days. In 2013, Seabourn Quest started out in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and ended up in Venice, Italy. I thought it would be great to see what the cruise line is up to for 2017.

It turns out, Seabourn’s next available world cruise is planned for January 4, 2018. In 2018, it’s longer and, as can be expected, more expensive. This time, we’re looking at 152 days and the ‘Great Oceans Exploration’ starts in Miami, Florida while also finishing in North America in Vancouver, British Columbia.

2018 152 Day Great Oceans Exploration

As mentioned, this time the cruise of a lifetime starts in Miami, Florida on January 4, 2018. This time, the tour is on board the Seabourn Sojourn. Some five months later, the ship docks in Vancouver, British Columbia and passengers will have to search hard for their land legs.

The stops are too numerous to mention, you can visit the Seabourn official site for more: Seabourn 2018 World Cruise. Or, take a look at the itinerary map here (click to enlarge). The ship does visit every continent except for Antarctica.

The price is steep, but if you consider the amount of time on the boat and the many amazing destinations, it’s actually quite reasonable. An Ocean View Suite goes for $99,449 CAD while a Veranda Suite is $108,548 CAD and a Penthouse Suite is $181,349 CAD. All those prices are subject to an additional $4,362 in taxes, fees and port expenses.

Seabourn Sojourn

This is a Seabourn Odyssey Class ship with a gross tonnage of 32,346. It was built by T. Mariotti S.p.A. Sojourn is currently one of just four ships in the Seabourn fleet but the fifth, Seabourn Ovation, is on the way for 2018.

Sojourn is 198 metres long and 25.6 metres wide. A cozy ship, there is space for 450 passengers when full.

Seabourn is owned by Carnival Corporation and was founded in 1986. Classed as an ultra-luxury cruise line, Seabourn is headquartered in Seattle, Washington.

If I won the lottery, what would be the first thing I’d do with all the money? Well, I don’t playseabourn cruise line quest the lottery because it’s a tax on the stupid but if I was to come into some riches, I do know the first thing I’d do.

116 days aboard the world’s number one Luxury Cruise line, exploring the world in style. Although, I would spend the rest of my time becoming a backpacking vagabond, the first four months of my new found lifestyle would be aboard the Seabourn Quest.

Seabourn Cruise Line

seabourn cruise line questSeabourn is a cruise line that takes style and comfort to a whole different level. Where Princess and Carnival are BMW’s, Seabourn is a Bentley. This is a cruise line, consisting of six ships, that does not know what an inside cabin is. All accommodations come in the form of a suite and are all ocean view.

The 116 World Cruise departs from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, travels through the Caribbean and Panama Canal before taking nine days to cross the Pacific. After exploring the South Pacific, Australia, Asia, India and the Middle East, the cruise finishes up in Venice, Italy.

The top room on the Quest is the Grand Wintergarden Suite at a whopping 1,189 square feet of living space. In addition, there are two balconies totalling over 200 square feet. The price for this suite isn’t even listed on Seabourn.com. However, to give an idea of what this cruise will cost, the prices range from $52,000 per person for an Ocean View suite to $104,000 per person for a Penthouse suite.

So – a lot of cash. But… we’re talking four months of very luxurious living while covering much of the civilized world. The Quest is smaller than the mass market ships that fit thousands of customers. Therefore, the Seabourn boat can access many ports that the big ships can’t. Included in you fee are many onshore excursions and onboard guest speakers and entertainment.

  • Sydney, Australia: Dinner in the Sky
  • Hong Kong, China: Afternoon Tea at the Races
  • Dubai, UAE: Sunset at Burj Khalifa
  • Bodrum, Turkey: An Evening at Kempinski Barbados Bay Hotel
  • Bora-Bora, French Polynesia: A Day at Motu Tapu

  • Ho Chi Minh City, Vietman: Saigon River Cruise and Ascent of the Bitexco Tower
  • Phuket, Thailand:  Siam Niramit Village of the Four Regions

Of course, Seabourn offers more than just this world cruise. The six ships are always cruising somewhere in the world. Pricing gets a little more down to Earth on shorter cruises, as well. For example, a 14 day Mediterranean Cruise starting in Venice, Italy and ending in Istanbul, Turkey can be had in the summer of 2013 for between $5,900 and $13,000 per person. Still much higher than your average crowded Caribbean cruise. However, you get what you pay for.
