Port Credit Sunrise Over Lake Ontario And The SS Ridgetown (2019 Version)

Ah, spring. My first early morning trip down to Lake Ontario to enjoy a sunrise. This time, it was a bit of a different angle at Port Credit. Normally, we visit the east side of the mouth of the Credit River. That gets you on the pier and, if you do a little climbing, gets you on the rocky breakwater.

This time, we went to the west side. This actually gives a much better view of the SS Ridgetown and the sunrise in general over Lake Ontario. At 6am, there is plenty of free parking close to the location and the area is quite safe.

See our photos from the east side here: Sunrise At Port Credit In Mississauga.

The SS Ridgetown is a Great Lakes freighter that started life in 1905 as the William E. Covey. The ship was intentionally sunk in 1970 to create part of the breakwater.

Unique about this spot, as you can see in the photos and video below, is the distant view of the downtown Toronto, Ontario skyline. With a decent lens, you can get some pretty cool shots.

Port Credit, Ontario Sunrise Video

The short video below gives you a better feel of the peaceful calm of this place at this time of the morning. Later on, the park area around Port Credit is crowded with humans and parking your car can be an impossible task. At the moments before and after the sunrise, you will have the place mostly to yourself.
