Top 10 Most Viewed Images of 2013

Alright, one more ‘2013 Top 10’ article before moving on…

We have sort of a companion site using the free WordPress.com platform that is mostly a showcase of what comes out of the camera. picoday.wordpress.com has actually been around longer than It’s About Travelling but is often neglected for new content.

Below are the most viewed images from Pic of the Day in 2013. They’re a pretty decent lot, if I do say so. If you click on any of the images, you will be re-directed to the actual post the image was included in.

So, starting from number 10…

Yes, yet another image of the CN Tower in downtown Toronto, Ontario. However, the focus of the image and probably why it was viewed so often is the people in the orange jumpsuits that can be seen outside on the upper edge of the observation deck.

The CN Tower EdgeWalk is a feature that was just recently introduced that allows people, connected to a cable, to walk around outside on the edge of the abyss.

This is not a new image! The article showing the inside of the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium was posted on January 25, 2010. Quite frankly, it’s a terrible image. However, the Aud was searched for often as the home of the Kitchener Rangers of the Ontario Hockey League has undergone extensive renovations over the past few years.

As a vegan, I have mixed emotions about animals being kept in captivity in zoos. I have myself somewhat convinced that some good comes out of the animal jail. Anyway, this image of the Grizzly Bear was taken at the Toronto Zoo in the fall of 2013. He was so powerful and so agitated at being in an enclosed space.

Hey, that’s me! This is not the newest of images, either. We spent a day at the Horseshoe Adventure Park, just north of Barrie, Ontario, at the end of August, 2011. This is the Zip Flyer, a ride that sends you down what serves as a ski hill in the wintertime.

Fundy National Park in September, 2012. This is one terribly edited long exposure image of the waterfall along the Dickson Brook trail.

One of greater feats in long exposure photography effects. The camera is mounted behind my right shoulder on a tripod taped to the floor. The exposures were, I think, around 2-3 seconds and show the dash of my 2005 Pontiac Montana SV6 minivan. The road is, I think, Townline Road in Orangeville, Ontario, just around the corner from my house.

I loved this effect and, really, it’s quite easy to achieve. The guy across the road has a Porsche 911 but I still haven’t got around to coaxing him into letting me do this in his car.

Pine River Provincial Fishing Area. This was not from this autumn. The colours were amazing the year this was taken – 2-3 years ago. This year, in the Orangeville / Dufferin County area, the leaves just weren’t that great. I went by this location once in the fall but it was quite foggy and the colour just wasn’t there.

Displaying my proficiency with Photoshop. The image of the Emirates Airbus A380 was taken at Toronto Pearson International Airport. The background is a farm field adjacent to the Boyne River Provincial Park, between Shelburne and Alliston in Ontario.

Controversy keeps this image near the top. This is the rather unspectacular Cannings Falls on the Nottawasaga River, just northeast of Orangeville. As far as Niagara Escarpment waterfalls go, this really doesn’t rank that high. However, snooty, self-important property owners go to extremes to make it known that there is no trespassing. To me, and many others, ‘No Trespassing’ equals ‘Challenge Accepted’.

And, the number one most viewed image of the year is…

The Absolute World Towers. These brand spanking new Mississauga, Ontario skyscrapers, just across from Square One Mall, have a shape like no others. Because of the curves, the towers are nicknamed the Marilyn Monroe buildings.
