With Norwegian Cruise Line, their Dawn Class of cruise ships might only consist of two vessels but they’re a couple of busy boats for the rest of 2013. The Dawn Class consists of the Norwegian Star and Norwegian Dawn, both now with over a decade of service behind them.

Norwegian Star

The Star was built by Meyer Werft in Papenburg, Germany and made her maiden voyage on November 19, 2001. Registered out of Nassau, Bahamas, this ship has a gross tonnage of 91,740 and is 294 metres, or 965 feet, long. On board, there are 15 decks available to the up to 2,348 passengers. 1,038 crew members are needed in order for the Star to operate.

Until October 1, 2013, the Norwegian Star will be running nine night Baltic cruises out of Copenhagen, Denmark. Port calls are made at Warnemunde, Germany; Tallinn, Estonia; St. Petersburg, Russia; Helsinki, Finland and Stockholm, Sweden. The last of these nine night trips embarks on September 1.

On October 1, the Star leaves Copenhagen on a 12 night repositioning cruise, ending up in Miami, Florida. The ship will make just one stop along the way, at Ponta Delgada in Portugal’s Azores Islands. A Norwegian Repositioning Cruise is a very affordable way to experience a journey across the Atlantic by ship.

Once in Miami, the Star will run four 14 night cruises between Miami and Los Angeles, California. The highlight is the traversing of the Panama Canal. Other port calls in this itinerary include Cartegena, Colombia; Puntarenas, Costa Rica; Puerto Chiapas, Mexico; Huatulco, Mexico; Puerto Vallarta, Mexico and Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.

After the last run from Miami to Los Angeles, the Star will call the California city home through the end of 2013. She will get into a routine of seven night cruises to Mexico with stops in Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlan and Puerto Vallarta.

Norwegian Dawn

The younger sister to the Star, the Dawn was also built by Meyer Werft and is registered out of Nassau. Her maiden voyage took place on December 7, 2002. The Dawn is slightly heavier but shorter than the Star with a gross tonnage of 92,250 and a length of 292 metres, or 958 feet. She shares the same number of passenger decks but has a higher capacity, capable of 2,224 passengers and 1,126 crew members.

Over the summer months of 2013, the Dawn will be running seven night cruises out of Boston to Bermuda. These are simple out and back cruise with just one stop, three days at King’s Wharf in Bermuda. The last leaves September 6 before switching to New England and Canada for a month. These cruises embark out of Boston and Quebec City, making stops in Portland, Maine; Halifax, Nova Scotia; Charlottetown, PEI; Gaspe, Quebec and La Baie, Quebec.

After returning to Bermuda cruises for the rest of October, the Dawn embarks on a 14 night journey from Boston to Tampa, Florida. Stops along the way include St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands; St. John’s, Antigua and Barbuda; Bridgetown, Barbados; Willemstad, Curacao; Oranjestad, Aruba and Cozumel, Mexico.

For the remainder of 2013, the Dawn settles in to seven night Western Caribbean cruises out of Tampa. Stops on this itinerary include Coxen Hole, Honduras; Belize City, Belize; Costa Maya, Mexico and Cozumel, Mexico.
