Mississauga, Ontario. Why would you go there? If you’re from outside the Greater Toronto Area, what is Mississauga, Ontario?
Mississauga was incorporated in 1974 and is a suburb of Toronto, butted up against the western edge of Canada’s largest city. Mississauga has a population of over 700,000 and is Canada’s sixth largest city.
If you live relatively close to the GTA, Mississauga represents work and shopping. The epicentre is the Square One Mall, which has become a concrete mecca of commerce.
If you are visiting the GTA, Mississauga is the actual city you land in when you fly into Pearson International Airport.
Mississauga, Ontario City Centre
These images were taken over Easter Weekend, 2013 while forced to go to Square One shopping, along with thousands and thousands of others. The day was a welcome break in the crappy winter and spring weather we’ve been having in Ontario.
The image above is looking east from one of the parking structures at Square One. To the right are the Absolute World towers or, as they’re nicknamed, the Marilyn Monroe towers.
Looking south from Square One at some of the relatively older structures in the city centre area.
One Park Tower is a 38 storey structure that was completed in 2008. It was the tallest building in Mississauga until the completion of the Absolute World South building that stands at 56 floors and 576 feet, over 100 feet taller than One Park Tower.
This building is dubbed ‘Chicago’. It was completed in 2010, contains 35 floors and stands 410 feet tall. The design is definitely a throwback to the early years of the 20th century.
This new complex should be completed in 2013. The main tower will be 45 floors and 456 feet high.
A closer looks at One Park Tower, standing 466 feet tall.
These two buildings frame the clock tower of the Mississauga City Hall.

Another look south from Square One at the buildings of Mississauga. The Novotel Hotel to the left has rooms for around $150 CAD per night (cheaper on Expedia).
The Absolute World South (taller tower) was completed in 2011 and is 56 stories high (576 feet). This is the tallest building in the city of Mississauga. The North Tower was completed in 2012 and is 50 stories high (518 feet). Absolute World North is the second tallest in the city.
Mississauga, Ontario Video
The below video was taken July 2, 2017 and shows the area around the city centre. The video is taken four years after the images above so there is some marked change to the landscape.
