If you can’t be with the one you love,
Honey, love the one you’re with…
Stephen Stills gave us those words of advice back in 1970. I doubt he was singing about photography at the time…
But, while you’d like to taking epic shots of mountains in Jasper or Banff or capturing shoreline magic on the Pacific Coast of Oregon, these days, you have to take what you can get.
That often comes in the form of your local park where you normally wouldn’t even take a camera to. After all, been there, done that. Do you really need another photo of a place you’ve photographed a thousand times before?
Surprisingly, if you give that one you’re with a bit of love, you’ll come up with something new. Something that you simply overlooked before, lost in familiarity. Something that just needed the right weather and lighting conditions that have never occurred in the right combination before.

Island Lake Conservation Area Image Gallery
The photos in the image gallery were taken recently around sunrise at Island Lake Conservation Area in Orangeville, Ontario, Canada. The park is close to my home and makes for some great walking trails. The park can also provide some decent views if you look hard enough.
The photos have been cropped to fit the gallery format. For full-size versions, simply click on the individual pictures.
High resolution versions of these images and other photos from the same day are available at Dreamstime. Want to earn cash from your own photos? Why not sign up for free with Dreamstime and start submitting now: Become a paid photographer!
Always Bring The Camera. Just In Case…
I’ve been burned enough times to know, if you don’t think there’s going to be anything worth photographing, there will be. It’s almost a guarantee that if the camera bag stays home or in the car, some magical scene will pop up. Of course, the opposite is often true, too. If you lug the camera bag, many times it doesn’t come off your shoulders.
So, my personal rule is now: take the camera. More often that not, I will capture at least one decent shot.
The photos in the gallery above resulted from a simple sunset walk at Island Lake at the kids’ request. I was expecting nothing. I came up with these four. Nothing incredible but four more shots than I would have got if I’d left the camera at home.
What This Same Scene Will Look Like In A Few Months
Generally the same part of the park that the above photos were taken. Island Lake takes on a very different persona during the winter months. Non-motorized boating is replaced by ice fishing. Walking remains but cross country skiing is added to the mix.
As usual, give it a Thumb’s Up if you like what you see. We are always grateful for new subscribers to our YouTube Channel!
