Update June 4, 2018

Indian Falls has changed quite drastically since we visited back in 2012. A large chunk of rock separated from the crest and crashed to the bottom. The result is a waterfall that has a double curtain instead of just a single curtain of water from top to bottom. Also, these changes make it no longer possible to walk behind that curtain of water. Check out what it looks like now in our latest article: Indian Falls.

Quite often, the area between Owen Sound and Wiarton in Ontario, Canada is seen as an inconvenient, traffic-filled delay enroute to a summer vacation destination. The traffic builds on summer weekends as visitors from more southern parts of the province get funneled down into less and smaller highways as they make their way to Sauble Beach or the Bruce Peninsula.

The coastal road (county road 1) from Owen Sound to Wiarton is actually full of hidden gems that most travellers to the area never get to see. The road runs along the Georgian Bay waters from Owen Sound to Colpoy’s Bay. The one feature we’re going to look at today is Indian Falls.

Located just north of Owen Sound on county road 1 is an often overlooked, easy to get to, exceptional waterfall. Indian Falls is the result of the Indian Creek dropping 45 feet over the Niagara Escarpment. At the crest, the waterfall is about 25 feet across.

Indian Falls Conservation Area

The Indian Falls Conservation Area consists of a parking lot with public washrooms just off C.R. 1. The trail to the waterfall is short and well shaded. There is an unofficial trail that runs along the creek to the base of the waterfall. If one is daring and doesn’t want to get wet, it is possible to walk behind Indian Falls.

What follows are pictures taken on an outing in May, 2012. Be sure to check out the video at the bottom featuring views from all angles, including behind Indian Falls!

Stay tuned for articles on other great locations in this area: Jones Falls and Bruce’s Caves.

We compiled this video from a bunch of clips taken with the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS2 waterproof camera. This little thing takes great video and is especially awesome for taking video in wet situations, such as directly below or behind a waterfall!
