A hidden treasure in southern Ontario that is both free and majestic is Hoggs Falls. The 25 foot high water fall is located just a few kilometers to the northeast of Flesherton, Ontario. Flesherton is located on highway 10 northwest of Toronto / Brampton, around halfway between Orangeville and Owen Sound.

Hoggs Falls is the result of the Boyne River taking a severe drop. The falls can be accessed from a small gravel parking lot, simply marked with a hand written sign. The waterfall is just a short walk up a smooth trail.

Part of the Bruce Trail system, the trail that passes by Hoggs Falls can be followed up to another great water drop, Eugenia Falls. Eugenia Falls is in the small hamlet of Eugenia. The waterfall is more dramatic than Hoggs Falls but has less water going over the crest. Eugenia is on Beaver River.

The trail at Hoggs Falls follows the upper edge of the ‘canyon’. However, just past the waterfall, there is a natural, but steep and constantly wet, staircase to get down to water level. There are ropes to help with the climb down. The ground below the waterfall is rocky, wet and slippery so extra caution should be taken. It is well worth the effort, though, to get to the base of the falls to feel and hear the strength of this natural wonder.
