Freight Trains: Slowly Getting Our Lives Back To Normal

It doesn’t seem like much. An afternoon spent at the train station, waiting on a few freight trains to pass. But, it’s a regular thing that my kids and I do. It’s something that was taken away from us for a couple of months. Prior to that, it was taken away from us for different reasons.

Almost forgotten now, after the shit storm that is COVID-19, was the fact that the main rail artery in Canada was shutdown for a month or so by protesters. When that got cleared up, we weren’t allowed to leave our homes.

So, the little things, like the exhilaration of a massive train rushing by just feet away, are what brings back a serenity and normality to our lives. In our household, it was not a ‘government sponsored vacation’. All adults worked regular full-time hours, if not more. One adult was and is on the front lines, living in constant fear of coming in contact with the virus. We need a break. We need trains* (*insert what you makes you happy).

About The Trains

This is an article about nothing. It’s just to express my happiness that things are opening up and my hope that it will continue that way. It’s a chance to share some great pictures of some CN freight trains on a beautiful spring day.

I love to watch and photograph trains. However, I’m not a technical rail guy. I have an inkling when they might pass by but have no way of knowing. I see that there are registration numbers on each engine. I have no idea what they mean. Airplanes – that’s a whole different story. Trains – I like to watch them and I like to ride them. That’s as far as that goes…

But, I do know that the one engine painted with the 100 year anniversary logo is a bit of a big deal. I know this only because a serious rail fan got all excited the last time we saw this red, black and white diesel pass by.

Funny thing was, that 100 year engine was actually at the back of one of the trains. The photos don’t show this and we didn’t capture…

Previous Freight Train Video From The Same Location

The following video was taken earlier this year at the same location as the photos above. Enjoy! We will have more train videos coming to the channel in the near future.
