This was my favourite spot to camp when I was in my teens. Then, a few decades passed by. It’s been really nice to rediscover Falls Reserve Conservation Area over the past few years.
Not a huge park, by any means. You’re not completely immersed in Wilderness, by any means. Still, this is a great spot to relax, do some fishing and play in a refreshing waterfall during those hot summer months.
Our last visit was in mid-August, 2018. So, yes, I’m a bit behind in getting these photos and videos up. There will definitely be a visit or two in 2019.

Falls Reserve Conservation Area Info
Falls Reserve Conservation Area is located about 10 kilometres inland from Goderich, Ontario and the shores of Lake Huron. The campground is situated on the inside of a bend in the Maitland River. The park is surrounded on three sides by the sharply curving river.
There are 190 campsites available in the 230 acre park. Everything from radio free walk-in sites to unserviced to fully serviced with up to 30 amp connections are available. There is seasonal camping in two of the three main campgrounds.
The three main areas are now called Maple, Cedar and Sycamore. Sycamore was formerly Mennesetung and Cedar was originally called Chippewa. Cedar consists of all unserviced sites but the sites offered are spacious and can be quite private.
Camping rates for 2019 range from $38 to $57 per night. Be careful – you can reserve online but there is a $10 reservation fee. The best bet is to check availability online and if there are plenty of sites, take your chances by not reserving. Day use rates are $8 per adult in 2019 with a carload maximum of $15.
Fishing is excellent. In the river, you can catch trout, salmon, smallmouth bass, monster carp and suckers. The last two listed aren’t much for eating (with the warmth of the water on this shallow river, I don’t think I’d be eating much of anything) but are fun for a fight. There is a stocked pond on site but it comes with a ton of rules and is usually fished out early in the season.

The following video was taken at the waterfall on the Maitland River. A bit of warning, this can bet pretty dangerous, depending on the season and rainfall amounts. But, normally, it’s safe for all ages.

About Goderich, Ontario
The closest main centre to Falls Reserve Conservation Area is the town of Goderich, Ontario. Everything you need for shopping and dining is available here. There is also a great beach area on the shores of Lake Huron.
The town was founded by William ‘Tiger’ Dunlop in 1827. Goderich was incorporated as a town in 1850 and is now home to around 7,500 residents. This is home to the Sifto Salt Mine, the largest salt mine in the world. The mine is 530 metres or 1,750 feet below the surface and travels for a long distance underneath Lake Huron.
