Elora is a small town in Ontario, Canada, north of Kitchener – Waterloo and just west of Fergus. This quaint little town is as picturesque as it comes in Southern Ontario. Elora is located on the Grand River and was formerly home to the furniture manufacturing business. Nearby features include:
- Elora Quarry Conservation Area
- Elora Gorge Conservation Area
- Grand River Raceway and Slots
This article is a collection of images taken around town. The natural highlight is the Tooth of Time waterfall, just downstream from the centre of town. The waterfall gets its name from the stubborn piece of rock in the centre that refuses to be swept away by the strong waters of the Grand River. Not far below that, the Grand River becomes encased in steep rock walls on either side. This is referred to as the Elora Gorge. The gorge is locally famous for tubing. Each tubing run starts at some very exciting rapids and goes downstream at varying speeds for 20 to 30 minutes.

Elora Quarry Conservation Area is a popular place to spend a hot summer day. The water is refreshing but can get quite weedy. A constant is daredevils jumping from the cliffs into the quarry waters. This is outlawed and results in an immediate exit from the park.
As you can see from the signs below, the Conservation Area takes it to extremes to warn people of all the ‘dangers’ associated with the quarry. In my opinion, this is the epitamy of the ‘Nanny State’ that Canada, and especially Ontario, has become.
