Bobcaygeon, Ontario Sunrise: Photos and Video (August, 2019)

Summer, 2019. It’s nearly passed us by in a blink of an eye. In Southern Ontario, at least, the weather wasn’t summer-like until basically the start of July. This made for what seemed a very short summer.

Going into the season, I planned to catch the sunrise once or twice each and every week. As the month of August draws to a close, I can count once or twice over the past two months. Was it the weather? No. It comes down to just pure laziness. When you need to get up at 4am to travel to capture a sunrise, it’s very easy to sleep in.

But, in mid-August, I did get out of bed. I was inspired by the ten minute drive to my destination. The sun was to rise in just the right spot that it would be seen right down the Bobcaygeon River from the dam that controls the flow through lock 32 of the Trent Severn Waterway.

What follows is what I captured.

Bobcaygeon, Ontario Sunrise Video

The following video includes real time clips, a time lapse of the full sunrise and some photographs. Near the end, there is a very special scene looking west, away from the sun. The shoreline is aglow with the bright orange of early morning and a flock of geese fly gracefully past.

Bobcaygeon, Ontario Sunrise Photo Gallery

There are just five images in the photo gallery for this article. Normally, I shoot for six or nine so that the gallery formats all nice and even. I took a lot of photos that morning but they were basically all of 3 or 4 different views.

And, yes, the photographic sinner that I am, these are bracketed HDR photos. At least, three of the five are. Can you figure which three? These three are composed of three bracketed exposure images, blended together using the Photomatix add-on for Photoshop Elements.

HDR or not, the sky really was that brilliant that morning. The video above is proof. All the video clips are basically unmodified.
