About Aubrey Falls
A bit of unsung, hidden gem even though it’s quite easy to access once you’ve reached the parking lot. Aubrey Falls is part of Aubrey Falls Provincial Park, a non-operating park along Ontario Highway 129 between Thessalon and Chapleau. The problem is, the waterfall is 85 kilometres off the main Trans Canada Highway between Sudbury and Sault Ste. Marie.
But, once you’re there, you will not be disappointed. The waterfall drops some 53 metres or 175 feet in a labyrinth of cascades.
The drive up from the Trans Canada is a treat in itself. The highway often follows the twisting and turning Mississagi River and is amazingly beautiful – just remember to keep your eyes on the road! The river runs 266 kilometres in total and ends up in Georgian Bay at Blind River.
Proof that AI is not quite invincible yet, when we asked ChatGPT for some details on Aubrey Falls, it gave us information for Magpie Falls. Magpie is also a must see if you’re in that general area of Ontario. Magpie on the river of the same name, just outside of Wawa. That waterfall is spectacular, as well, but considerably shorter in height at just over 100 feet. It should be noted that both waterfalls are free to visit.
